> I was prescribed 500mg of Depakote for racing thoughts, when this didn't work my doc upped the dosage to 1000mg. I think I'm experiencing hypomania at 1000mg. Are there other alternatives? Will this subside? The racing thoughts have not gone away in the least bit. I don't know if it's anxiety or if it's just my sleep pattern. Please help!

You need to let your Dr. know about this b/c obviously the Depakote is not working for you. This happened to me too. After a while it just stopped working. My doctor switched me to Topamax which is another mood stabalizer that is also an epilectic medication (like Depakote). It has worked great for me and there aren't any major side effects, except weight loss. And no blood work to test levels is required. You can also try lithium (eskalith, lithobid -are some other names for it). But I would talk to your Dr. and see what's right for you, b/c Depakote doesn't seem to be working for you anymore.
