Havent had to stop it. But I took Paxil for 5 years and Effexor about one month, developed a rash. My doc would go fron one drug directly to the next. I never had to deal w/ head shocks.
You have to taper very slowly. If you feel shocks, go up a tiny bit till you don't. Then try again at reducing dose. Take Prozac, very long half life, for 2-3 days when you've tapered almost all the way. Prozac will take days to leave your system and many times take the side effects away.
