Yes it can. I find Lamictal to be activating even at lower doses. My doctor mentioned that it has been *occasionally* known to cause hypomania. Don't be scared off yet, though. It definitely made me feel more anxious at first, but I've been able to counteract it with klonopin and neurontin. And I didn't seem to get much more stimulated as I titrated up. If anything it eased up some. I think my body gradually adjusted - you might too. I can't knowledgably comment on the Effexor combo, but I could imagine that the Effexor might be contributing to your problem. I found Effexor too stimulating.

I started titrating up very slowly (which is a MUST with Lamictal) but as the days wore on I grew more and more anxious, to the point where I thought I'd explode, the thoughts were racing, my head was swimming, I wanted to jump out of my skin, do anything to shut my mind off. I'm sensitive to meds (apparently!) but I'm wondering does it sound possible that such a relatively *low* dose of Lamictal could crank up the anxiety so high, or could it have been in combo with the EffexorXR?
