Hey Ross,

Glad to hear from you. I was just about to write to you to see how things were going.

This is how I see your situation. If you have not been manic, hypomanic or have a family history of bipolar disorder, I would not move to a mood stablizer as a sole agent. If you haven't responded to a TCA/SSRI/effexor, nardil is excellent next choice .... especially if you have anxiety with the depression. Nardil is thought to be the most potent antidepressant and antipanic med by most experienced psychiatrists.

But if your going try nardil, like any other med, you have to give it *TIME*. Because there are monoamine oxidase in the gut, I believe they have to be saturated first before the ones in the brain can be inhibited. This may take a week or two. Then, once the brain MAO are inhibited, it will take about 2 to 3 weeks for you to feel better. So it usually takes a little longer for patient to have a response to nardil. Also, most patient report nardil's effect to be like a light switch, depressed one day and normal the next. I remember the exact day I woke up a felt better. So, if you try the nardil, give it some time .... if you can't, maybe ECT.

I know from personal experience this can be the hardest thing in the world, have patience when your extremely depressed. Heck, it is the *HARDEST* thing in the world! So, try and hold on a little longer, and just think about the light at the end of the tunnel. Ultimately, you will be better!

Hal
