> My Doc tapered my meds Serzone, Elavil and Ativan for 3 days then started Celexa and Xanax. I had been on those meds for four years. On the second day of Celexa (I also have neuropothy pain) took an oxycodone and had uncontrollable shaking within 10 mins. and ended up in ER, dilated pupils, could not talk, could not make legs move was released after 6 hours. Now off all meds cold turkey except Ativan. Did I have Toxic Serotonin Syndrome or bad reaction to oxycodone? I'm not getting an answer from my Doc. I'm very sensitive to meds and Serzone is the only one I had never reacted too. Even the Elavil caused insomnia. Any advice? I am also having anti-depressant withdrawals, how long is this going to last?

Hi,

If you had only tapered tricyclic antidepressants (the Elavil) for "three days"-you probably hadn't gotten rid of too much of it (sometimes takes 2-3 weeks to wash out well). I was on doxepin (Sinequan) back in the early 80's and had a bad cold and was given some codeine cough syrup. Well, I went to work and got very dizzy and almost passed out after a single recommended dose of the codeine (orthostatic hypotension-low blood pressure-high heartrate).

Celexa may have been what added to it as well. If you had all of those negative reactions to other antidepressants you could be bipolar. If so, it doesn't surprise me you had a run-in with the switchover to Celexa (you didn't mention the dosage). The first time I tried an SSRI (Prozac)-I started off with a full 20mg capsule every morning. Well...within about 10-days I had dilated pupils, sweating, insomnia, and mild nighttime hallucinations, had to drop the dose back quite drastically-and then I was Ok. But, I am bipolar and in retrospect that doesn't surprise me considering all of the sensitivity reactions I have had with a lot of antidepressants. You just may need much reduced dosages and you will be OK.
