In reply to Panic disorder medication questions, posted by Preston7979 on February 21, 2002, at 11:08:57
> I am currently an outpatient for a psychiatrist and am wondering about my medicine. I am abou 300lbs. and 6''2',18 years old and I play football. I have had panic disorder since 6 months ago when i took to much ecstacy. My docter has tried meds from a2z. I am wonderin about my current medicine. I am taking .5mg klonopin 2x a day and 2 at night for sleep. I also take 100mg of zoloft in the morning. And finally .25(low dose) of risperdal in the evenings. This combanation I have been on for about 65weeks and am doin better. Now her come the questions. Am I taking too much medicine to play football. I feel as though I don't need the risperdal. How often is risperdal used in panic disorder. And finally I was just wondering if you know any doctors who played sports while in college because I am going off next year and would like to major in pre-med. Also oone more thing, are these medications safe to take while playing college football?, which i'm sure you know is tough.
Preston,
If you are concerned about the need for the Risperdal, just tell your doctor and see if he will let you taper off of that med first. Risperdal isn't indicated for panic disorder anyways. Klonopin and Zoloft are and do work quite well for that. If the Klonopin and Zoloft do not make you feel too fatigued (and they are working for you) it should be OK for heavy cardiovascular activity. They don't usually create any problems with heart rhythym and that sort of stuff.
good luck,
Mitch
