Seeing that ECT has it's effect on the neural system only in the area it's applied to (which accounts for the reasoning behind changing the positioning of the electrodes), I can't see how it'll make a difference in recovery of intense training.

The only possible way that it might help is through the connection of the neural system with our hormonal system - they're closely tied together but then wouldn't it simply be easier to give hormonal precursors than to 'shock' the brain into producing higher hormone levels, if it could even be done?

What's may be more important is individual cell restoration with heavy training. It's better to target the cellular processes probably than the nervous system. Depends too, on whether fast twitch or slow twitch muscles are involved. I don't know if the Russians are looking at increasing mitochondria in muscle cells. You probably know more about than I do.
