Weight gain with DECREASE of Zoloft

Posted by LyndaK on November 7, 2001, at 0:58:37

I've seen many threads talking about weight gain with AD's. With me it's never been a problem ... 'till now! The weird thing is, I didn't gain the weight until I DECREASED my dose of Zoloft. I'm not even sure it's the Zoloft, but I can't think what else it would be. Questions going through my mind are:

Did the Zoloft somehow mess up my metabolism so that now I've decreased my dose I'm gaining weight?

Did I mess up my metabolism by not consuming enough calories while I was on the higher dose, thus throwing my body into starvation mode (i.e. lower metabolism to conserve calories/body fat) so that now that my appetite is more normal my metabolism still isn't?

Am I actually at a more "normal" weight for my height and age but having difficulty accepting it? (according to the quiz on the weightwatchers website I'm right in the middle of the range that I "should" be. I'm not used to the extra subcutaneous adipose tissue -- it doesn't feel right.)

All I know is there has been a 15 to 20 pound jump in my weight in the last 2 - 3 months and I'm alarmed. My eating habits are generally good, I've never had the tendency to overeat, and although my activity level could be better, it's not bad (I have 2 young, ACTIVE boys and a physically active job) and certainly hasn't changed enough to account for the sudden jump in weight.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Lynda
