Lithium and KETOSIS (dieting)

Posted by Squiggles on October 6, 2001, at 13:05:33

Hi,

A friend of mine recommended a super low carbohydrate
diet. The food consists mostly of

TUNA
SALMON
CHEESE
CHICKEN
BEEF

and Salads, low-carb Vegetables,

and

FRUIT.

The only carbohydrate allowed is two Melba toasts
in the morning, and absolutely NO STARCHES OR SUGAR
allowed, except that from fruit.

I did not tell my friend I take lithium,
but now I am worried that this very low carb diet
may produce METABOLIC KETOSIS because I take lithium.

Should I add something to this diet? Is it safe
for someone taking lithium? I am not sure how
and if ketosis is dangerous for lithium takers.

Thank you.

Squiggles
