Attn: COLETTE: Re ZYPREXA:

Posted by Janelle on August 18, 2001, at 21:44:41

Hi, since the initial thread is so far above, I thought I'd respond to you down here - you asked how much Zyprexa do I take and at what time: I take 2.5 mg about 3 hours before I plan to go to bed at night. The reason for this timing is that I found that it does NOT knock me out or even begin to make me drowsy for quite some time after I take it.

I had told this to my pdoc and that same day another patient had called her to say that she (the patient) needed to take Zyprexa a few hours before bedtime because it took that long to kick in!

From what I know (and it's not a whole lot!), your experience with 2.5 mg of Zyprexa sounds "normal" - at that dose it won't do much to put you to sleep, but my pdoc claims and I am proof(!) that it does help lift one's mood/depression and also calm racing thoughts.

Depending on how you fare, you may want to increase it to 5 mg/night, but give the 2.5 mg a chance first!
Good luck,
-Janelle
