Of course! I have rapid cycling BPII (three-week cycles) and have major seasonal depressions twice a year overlaid on top of that! That is absolutely astounding that any pdoc nowadays would flatly dispute a BP diagnostic assertion based on a patient's insistence. Typically, the patient is disputing a BP diagnosis! I think that many pdocs are still hung up with Freudian crap regarding repression/denial trips. If you resist something-then they must be onto something! Not to mention if you find a benzo or stimulant working for you (despite the fact that you are not abusing it), then there must be some occult substance abuse issue that must be dealt with!
Lithium is still very useful. In my own personal situation, Li monotherapy beats Depakote monotherapy hands down. Depakote (by itself) just does't have the antidepressant prophylaxis that Li has (some will find differently-but these are my own findings personally). Bottom-line: If I was offered only Li and Depakote to choose from for monotherapy it would be the Lithium.
> this has been bothering me, I seem to flip in and out of good and bad times frequently. depakote it seems has evened this out a little, leaving me persistantly depressed. but I also seem to float in and out of depression and happyness over a longer timespan, a 2-3times a year, maybe. is it possible to have two currents of bipolar running at the same time??
> if so lithium is the choise to add, yes?? and what chance do I have convincing the docs to give me two potentialy lethal (particularly Li) when they point blank state that I am not bipolar (dispite only 30 min verbal questionare!)any tips for dealing with dangerous docs (when you cant find a new one -NHS)
