I was on Effexor a long time ago and it took "forever" to kick in--more than two weeks to even begin to feel an effect. It made me feel awful at first actually. But at about 4 weeks, I was very happy I stuck with it. It worked for 2 years--then I went off of it because of weight gain (you might want to consider a low carb approach if this is a concern to you) and sexual dysfunction.
