I'm now on day 5 of 20mg Paxil and starting to feel anxiety building.

I mentioned diazepam. For how long can one 'safely' take this in addition to the paxil, until hopefully the start up effects subside?
5 mg seems to do the trick for a few hours for me. In the past I have disciplined myself to take on an as needed basis, but only when things have reached breaking point.Perhaps I can be a little more liberal with them, without posing serious harm?

Or could I augment 1mg Fluanxol (or perhaps one of the newer atypicals) with the paxil?

I realise that these are questions that I should be asking my own GP, butI cannot see him for another four days and another view from someone who is clearly very knowledgeable on the subject, wouldn't go amiss

Finally, If Paxil has worked for me before, am i foolish in relying on it being successful again, given that it failed at the outset this time. Maybe my depression has worked its way through the cycle somewhat and the time is right for paxil? Or maybe I'm being a touch optimistic?
I would also be interested in your views as to when to raise the dose to 30 mg?

Regards, with many thanks, although I appreciate that you may not have the time to respond to another request for your knowledge.

> •Paul - The Fluanxol™ (flupenthixol) would have probably been used short term, but you'd have to ask your doc if this was to be so. I would think that your doc would have a reason for using the Fluanxol over something like Risperdal™ (risperidone) or Zyprexa™ (olanzapine). I have seen the blunting that you mention with Fluanxol, but it was remedied by a lowering of dose.
> As for the Paxil™ (paroxetine), it is probably a good choice for comorbid anxiety and depression and may be worth another shot. Unfortunately, one of the start-up side effects of Paxil is increased anxiety. The Valium™ (diazepam) will help with this and the start-up side effects should only last a couple of weeks.
> I would phone your doc to tell him/her that you have stopped the Fluanxol, though. It is always good to have everyone on the same page of a treatment plan.
> Good luck and keep us posted - Cam
