caseloma,

I think his doc is definitely doing the right thing by tapering him off slowly. This should help to minimize any withdrawal side effects. I've been on the Zy for about 6 months and will be for at least another 6, so I don't have any first hand knowledge of the withdrawal symptoms. But in talking to some friends who have, they've mentioned nausea, headaches and some irritability.

As far as taking meds forever, some people are fortunate to be able to stop the meds over time and lead relatively normal lives. Some of us are destined to take them for the rest of our lives. Hopefully his doc will watch closely for any return of his depression symptoms and act accordingly.

I wish you and your fiancee all the best and I hope you are able to put these tough times behind you very soon.

He is on Efexor(depression); clonazepam (anxiety); dilantin, neurontin, ativan (siezures) and zyprexa (anxiety, impulsiveness, sleep, depression, etc). I didn't think people just stayed on these things forever.
