In reply to Combining desipramine with stimulants and thyroid?, posted by PhoenixGirl on March 28, 2001, at 16:40:27

I wanted to add that sometimes doctors combine MAOIs with other antidepressants in treatment-resistant patients, even though this is considered an unsafe combination. I don't like the idea of trying something that may not be safe or healthy, but I can't keep living with depression for the rest of my life. Also, I have considered adding selegiline to my desipramine and levothroid. Selegiline is an MAOI-B inhibitor, and there have been no reports of MAOI-like interactions with other meds, like hypertensive crisis. Many doctors are too conservative I think, which only prolongs the suffering of treatment-resistant people like me.
