I use GABA and 5HTP to deal with irritability and hyperventilating. Try GABA--it's a calming amino acid. Take 500 mg on an empty stomach. You can take up to 1500 mg a day my pdoc told me. I find if I take 1000 at a time I get a niacin type rush which I don't like. So if 500 doesn't do it for me, I take an additional 500 1/2 hour later.
