> Has anyone heard of ritalin causing depression? I have recently been diagnosed as ADD by a new pdoc. He prescribed Ritalin. I have been taking 5mg. every 1 1/2 hrs. for a total of 40mg./day.

The Ritalin may have pooped out or decreased in effectiveness and a switch to Adderall or dexamphetemine may well help. My doc likes the former over the latter and thinks its worth the 2x price ($1.50 for 20mg pill vs $0.75 for the other two as generics at similar dosage levels).

Ritalin pooped out on me and I am taking Adderall now and pleased with it. My dosing was and is 20mg waking up, and maybe another at early/mid afternoon. I had never heard of your doc's schedule before. What a pain, and pointless unless you need the slow morning ramp up and really constant blood levels. It also costs your insurance company probably twice as much for 4 5mg tabs compared to 1 20mg tab - on the order of what non-generic would cost for 20mg tabs!
