Effexor Withdrawal my horror and what is helping

Posted by dayswiz on January 21, 2001, at 12:42:44

Hi all,

I took Effexor XR 75mg for 2 1/2 years. It was a wonder
drug in the beginning. I felt great, I lost weight, I was
a little neauseated but it got better. After about 6 mos.
it was not a wonder drug. I started gaining weight, I was
cranky and Lord help if I missed one. I tried to come off
of them once... cold turkey just stop... I could not get out
of the bed. It was horrible. So I stayed on them. As
time went on.... I felt worse. I had ringing in my ears all
the time. I felt tired and sluggish, short of breath alot.
And I hurt in my back all the time. When it's hot, I sweat
like a little pig and my hands would swell up and feel like
they were going to burst. SO... I decided I can do this
and I am. On top of no more ins. coverage to help pay for
the expensive mess.

This is what I have done and where I stand now....

I started weaning down the 75mg stretching it out for days
as long as I could then take one.... until I ran out. Then
I just stopped.

Stopping started the hell.....

Headaches, neausea, numbness in my face and mouth, the feeling
of tremors in my head a really weird felling. Stomach cramps
Kind of a drunk feeling. My eyes hurt....
I read where someone on a web site had done the following and I
tried it and it has helped tremendously so I am going to share it
here.

I started taking vitamins and miners and potassium to flush out
my system I am drinking more water....

Every morning:
1 Super Vit. B complex
1 Mutli-vitamin/mineral antioxidant vitamin
1 550 mg potassium
4 - Cranberry the herb (or you can drink cranberry juice or apple
juice at night before you go to bed... this helps to cleanse
your system
And a slow release Iron every other day.
for the pain, I took naproxin as little as I could get by with

Drink lots. keep lots of water in your diet. Try to eat
right... that's hard for me I love junk food.
Sleep is real important.... if you can't sleep.... Sleep ez works great
but only take one and be careful... anything to help you sleep could be
habit forming even if they say it's not. They told me that about effexor
and look at me now.

It has been 8 days. The head aches come later in the day, my eyes don't
hurt, and my achiness in general feels better. The zaps to the brain and
the numbness come and go. But I am beginning to feel human again.

Plus the main thing in anything... have faith don't forget where your knees
are and to look up and be thankful. I have had a ton of prayer and I know
it helped. Last time I did this no one knew and no one prayed I ended up back
on them. This time I will succeed. So will You.

God BLess you all....
