PPA alternative for appetite suppression?

Posted by S.D. on December 30, 2000, at 17:36:51

Now that drug stores have removed phenylpropanolamine-containing OTC appetite suppression meds (like dexatrim) from their shelves, in advance of a FDA ban, are there effective OTC or prescription alternatives. I don't have a significant weight problem, but as you may know some antidepressants can cause an appetite increase. It can be quite annoying and distracting to be hungry all the time and I found this med to be quite helpful, taken prn ("as needed").

(idle wondering: is PPA really more dangerous than prescription alternatives? If not, is it just that doctors, pharmacies and manufacturers make more money when a med is Rx-only).

peace and health,

S.D.
