John - Some older studies studies have tried to show mood stabilizing actions with Dilantin™ (phenytoin). Some of the studies had mixed results, others showed little benefit of using Dilantin as a mood stabilizer.

I have heard that there is renewed interest in using phenytoin for mood disorders. I have seen any actual articles, but Dilantin may have a place in the management of mood disorders in a subset of individuals. Keep your ear to the ground over the next few months to see if anything comes out of these new studies.

Hope this helps - Cam
