> I have been recommended by my doctor to take Celexa after he diagnosed me with moderate depression. I have been looking at websites and reading your comments and am concerned about the diminished sexual drive and the effects of alchohol. I drink five nights a week with usually three beers and a burbon. Does anyone drink this much with Celexa? I am 30 years of age and very sexually active. Any feedback anyone could give me would be extremely appreciated.

You might be better trying Wellbutrin instead, since it usually has prosexual effects. You could mix alcohol with Celexa, though it's recommmended not to. It's just that you might find the medication and alcohol combined have an exaggerated effect, and probably oversedation.

In Celexa's family of medications, Prozac has been documented clinically as having the least amount of side effects. It isn't normally sedating either. Of course, some people do have sexual side effects with Prozac, but at least the odds would be more in your favor. A low dose of Prozac for me actually increases my desire, increases ability, increases sensation, and lengthens the sexual experience just the right amount of time. Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft all had the opposite effect. They lowered desire, lowered ability, numbed sensation, and took an exhausting laborious amount of time to finish the sexual experience, if I was able to do it at all.

Remeron or Serzone are generally sex-friendly, but you would likely find them way too sedating, especially if combined with alcohol.

Wellbutrin might be your best bet. It can be rough to start with. Whatever your doctor tells you is the lowest dose to start with, cut in half instead. Work up slowly. We really shouldn't be drinking at all while on these meds. But if one must, Wellbutrin might be a better choice due to its stimulating and prosexual properties.
