In reply to Losing Effectiveness Over Time?, posted by Mom of Two on July 28, 2000, at 21:13:43
There are often instances in which ADs lose effectiveness with people. It happened to me with Zoloft (I was SO disappointed!).
I have read several posts in which people have talked about a lower dose actually increasing the effectiveness again, although it is counterintuitive. So, if you are regularly using 150 mg. you would lower it some. I am not sure how much.
I'm sure other people will respond to your post who know more than I do, but I wanted you to not give up hope!

P.S. Your analysis of how you feel is more important than anyone else's (ie, your husband's).
> As with many people, this is the firs time I've posted anywhere, but I don't know where else to turn. I've had very good success on 150mg Effexor for about 8 months. Over the ast month (or slightly more, if you listen to my husband), I've found it less effective, and I seem to be slipping backward -- lethargy, irritability, overall "down-in-the dumps," etc. My psychiatrist, whom I've only seen on occasion for med. management, had put me on 300mg at one point to see if I got any additional boost; I didn't have any increase in AD effect, but was bothered by the most intractable constipation I've ever had (mild-to-moderate is still a problem for me, even at 150mg!), so I'm hesitant to increase the dose (especially after all I've read here on withdrawl!!!) I had tried Paxil before this, by itself and with added Wellbutrin (just about the worst thing I've been through -- the shakes and anxiety were overwhelming), so I don't know if adding and SSRI is an option.
