I am not sure where you are coming from, could you elaborate, St. James?

James here.....

Aspartame is mostly Phenylalanine, one of the amino acids which the body cannot manufacture itself, but must acquire from food. It is abundant in meats and cheese. Phenylalanine is a precursor of tyrosine, and together they lead to the formation of thyroxine or thyroid hormone, and of epinephrine and norepinephrine which is converted into a neurotransmitter. (Phenylalanine comes in two forms which are mirror images of each other: L-phenylalanine which has a nutritional value, and D-phenylalanine which has painkilling and depression alleviating properties which are attributed to its ability to block the breakdown of enkephalins, the brains natural pain killers. A third form, DL-phenylalanine, is a 50/50 mixture of these two forms. Phenylalanine activity is enhanced by additional Vitamin B 6, especially in studies on depression. I take DL-phenylalanine + B 6, it makes a small difference, a little tweak. Phenylalanine is used as a smart drug. The literature does report that schizophrenics should not take phenylalanine (diet coke) My guess is that some people are sensitive to a good jolt of phenylalanine + caffeine.

If Nutrasweet is really bad we would have flipper babies everywhere by now. The only point I was making is that calling it a poison is way off base, it is like calling water a poison, both are essential for life.

That said I do have some concerns about aspartame.
How much phenylalanine is in a diet coke (which I am drinking now) and what
do large doses of phenyalamine do in humans ? Diet drinks also make you
hungry. Really ! I often thought this might be the case but dismissed it. No
way ! Way. It seems your taste buds only know sweet, not sugar or
Nutrasweet. You taste sweet (sugar or not) and your body makes insulin. You
have not taken in sugar so the insulin has nothing to do but make you hungry. You crave things
that are never good for you. Little Debbie products and Diet Coke are made by Satan ! So the calories
saved in drinking diet products is lost to cravings.

Peace and love from the high desert of northern New Mexico,

Saint James
