Psychosis vs. Neurosis

Posted by brian on June 6, 2000, at 10:32:37

Can somebody provide me with some insight on the difference between psychosis and neurosis? I've read and heard much about the two conditions, but I still don't have a clear understanding of if and how they relate. For example, are there mutually exclusive biological underpinnings, or do the states merely amount to a difference between, say too little serotonin vs. too much dopamine? Is it a scale, with severe neurosis perhaps just below the threshold of psychosis.

Any input would be great.

Thanks
