They are Affiliated Research Insititute in Berkeley, CA, an offshoot of Alta Bates Hospital. I set up an appt to be seen there next Tuesday. They want me to spend an hour with their Psychiatrist to see if I meet their criteria for a test patient, then do a 1 1/2 hour physical (EKG, blood tests, yada yada yada). Then assuming I pass the tests, they will start me on the med.

I'd really like to know what I might be getting myself into. Even if this is a new drug, there should be some kind test results available that I can look at so I know a little about it up front. Is that an unreasonable expectation? They said I would have to stop using the Wellbutrin and Neurontin, but that the Xanax and the Ambien should be OK. They really asked a lot of questions about my sleeping habits (or lack thereof), does that mean anything to you? I'm really having my doubts about whether I should follow thru with this, but who knows, this could be a miracle drug that will help millions.

Hey Greg: That sounds pretty scary. My psychopharmacologist told me that he knew of eight brand new drugs in the hopper just waiting to be brought to human trials. He said that in about six months we'll see all of them up here in Canada but they are being tested in the states right now. We're always behind in meds up here. Can you say no after the physical and they tell you what the drug is? My guy seemed to think these drugs were going to revolutionize the depression treatment industry--said some of them were comparable to celexa and serzone put together and others were more specific neurotransmitter inhibitors. As you know by now, I have no clue what he's talking about but he wants to try me on them too, when they are available. Can't make your decision any easier but I'll be there for ya.
Love Tina
