metaphores, dogs and hope

this post has apparently died, which is good for posts to do sometimes. but i feel the need to babble a bit, which is good for me to do sometimes.

i've always been almost fanatically drawn to animals. at one point i thought i may understand why. i pictured a dog, cornered. he was being beaten by someone (perhaps his owner). i could see the dog's eyes, their lack of comprehension for what was happening, their helplessness and wonderment of what he did to deserve such a thing.
that's what i felt like. cornered, cowering, confused, and not deserving of so much pain. what made the metaphore even more accurate was the fact that i thought i might also be the beater....but neither the dog nor the person beating him had any idea of how to stop the senario.

hope...........emily dickinson described it as the thing with wings, i believe.
it can be scary to grasp on to because potential hope never realized is sadder than that which was simply never there. it's like love.

"you would think now that hope would be tired, but it's all right."
a song that i used to play over and over as a sort of theme song.
