Re: Buspar versus Serzone?

Lucy - Serzone is an antidepressant and BuSpar is an anxiolytic (anti-anxiety drug). They both affect the serotonin system of the body.

As for efficacy - BuSpar works in some people, but not all. Serzone works in some people, but not all.

I aways say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" If you have found an antidepressant that works for you, feel very fortunate. Many on this board cannot find an antidepressant that works even slightly for them.

I sincerely doubt that BuSpar will give you energy and reverse your sleepiness, it just does not cause much sleepiness by itself, especially when compared to the more common anxiolytics like the benzodiazepines (Valium, Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, etc.).

When are you taking the Serzone? If you are taking it in the morning, you might want to switch it closer to bedtimes. If you are dividing the dose, take your morning dose later in the morning (eg at morning coffee break).

Perhaps asking your doctor if you can slightly lower your Serzone dose and see if this helps with the sleepiness.

Hope this helps - Cam W.
