Dear Jan,

You sound better.

I am a bit surprised that your former doctor never mentioned it. Neurontin is a real good drug which is often used in combination with other mood-stabilizers for treating rapid-cyclicity and treatment-resistant bipolar disorder. Lamictal is used in a similar fashion. Of course, no one drug is a "real good drug" for everyone. Your experience with Depakote, another real good drug, is an example of this. However, I think Neurontin and Lamictal, both anti-epileptic mood-stabilizers, offer something to look forward to.

> I do use the NIMH chart of sleep, moods and meds. but it is for the whole day and not for 2-3 times a day. It is frustrating because I have yet to find a doctor that really looks at them.

I am curious about the NIMH chart you are using. Where did you get it? How is it set up? How can I get some copies?

> Last night I was wound after falling apart and asking God over and over again wh....oh never mind, I was just angry at God for the first time since I was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago. I ended up taking a Xanax to get to sleep.

I don't know when.

Getting angry at Him is a very understandable reaction to what you have been unfairly ladened with. You must have quite a strong character to have held out for this long. You're doing well.

> Also, I've been seriously considering for a while now, of starting a support group in my town. Which is a major undertaking, I've only been here since Nov.

> I have so much going on in my life right now I can't begin to continue losing it. I've got to get past this bi-polar stuff and not let it incapacitate me.

The excitement, stimulation, and personal reward of beginning such a project can really add to the quality of your life. It might be very therapeutic. It sounds great. However, you must be careful to not subject yourself to unnecessary unhealthy stresses. It can only make things worse. Perhaps you can find a healthy place for this admirable "major" undertaking as you set your priorities for getting better. First things first.

I hope you don't think me too presumptuous.
