I have been on Celexa for about six weeks. While I am not diabetic (at least officially), I have monitored my blood sugar ever since getting a fasting 136 about a year ago in a blood test, and then a 132 from a glucose meter. These turned out to be uncommonly high, but by no means unprecedented, readings for me. Since losing over 50 pounds I've only once had a reading over 132 (which was about three weeks after I started taking high doses of Neurontin for Social Anxiety;
I promptly discontined after seeing 82 at night and 140 the nex morning).Anyways, to get to your main question: Celexa has definitely impacted my blood sugar, but in a very good way. My readings are lower (but never under 80), and I don't often have the large nighttime "dawn phenomenon" that I always experienced before, typically *increasing* 15 poinys or more overnight). Lately this benefit seems to be deteriorating. I'm still more stable than before -- especially with regard to lack of overnight rise on most nights -- but the levels are getting back to typical (e.g. 90-100 in the morning). So maybe it's a temporary effect. I don't know how long you've been on the Celexa, but I'd give it a little time to stabilze. (My heartbeat also dropped to 50 beats per minute my first two-three weeks on Celexa. Now it's back up in its usual 70-80 range).I HAVE seen several references in medical journals saying that SSRI's can affect glucose metabolism. But I've also seen that the American Diabetic Association
recommend SSRI's as the first-line AD's for diabetics.By the way, I've LOST a little more weight since being on Celexa, but have had to work a little harder at resisting temptation -- especially sweets. But again, this increase in hunger went away after three or four weeks. Unlike Paxil, Celexa is not known for weight gain.
Hope this helps.

Consequently her Doctor lowered her dosage, and since doing that she cries alot...her husband died suddenly in May of 1999. I think Celexa does cause weird things to happen to your body.
