I took Effexor XR for almost two weeks. Luckily, I didn't get a rash, but it did make me extremely nervous and nauseated, so I went off of it. However, I did get rashes when I tried Zoloft and later BuSpar. I discontinued taking Zoloft immediately after I got a rash on my back, but when I got a rash (hundreds of itchy red bumps all over my stomach) from BuSpar, I called my pdoc. My pdoc said it's not uncommon for some people to have initial allergic reactions to certains meds. He told me to take Benadryl, continue taking BuSpar, and to call him if the rash didn't clear up within a couple of days. The rash got better within a few hours of taking Benadryl, and was completely gone within a few days. (I discontinued BuSpar about a month later since it didn't work for me on anxiety, and had strange side effects.)
