To everyone who replied re. my son

Posted by Stacy on January 16, 2000, at 11:42:54

I just wanted to say thanks to dove, Renee N, Chris K, CarolAnn, & anna for all of your support & good advice with regard to my son. Sorry about the delay in getting back to all of you - a virus hit our house recently.
I've backed his Adderal dose down to 15mgs.AM/15mgs.PM again. The problem with irritability has practically dissipated. We're
going to wait a few more weeks & see how he does on it, before deciding about contacting the doc about increasing his dose. Maybe we'll just have to adjust to the difference between Adderal & Ritalin, in relation to concentration on school work. Although the Ritalin seemed to give him more focusing ability when it came to school work, we prefer Adderal overall. He has to compensate a little bit more, & work a bit longer on his lessons; however, he's much happier, & feels better (especially now that we've adjusted the AM/PM dosages.) His behavior, in general, has definitely improved. I told him that as long as he does his best, we can deal with it.
Again, I want to express my appreciation to all of you. I was at my wits end that day. I don't know what I would have done, had it not been for your encouragement.
Also, dove, thank you for sharing about the St. John's Wort & migraines, regarding the post concerning my own ADHD. I had been taking it for a while, & it did help the ADHD. I've always had migraines, but had noticed that they were becoming much more frequent & intense. They were getting so bad that I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow sometimes. I thought this was just due to growing older. Since I've stopped taking the SJW & have been taking SAMe I've only had one headache (about 6 days ago), & it went away within a few hours. It has been such a relief! My ADHD also seems to be getting better as the days go by. My appetite has increased slightly, but the benefits seem to make up for the inconvenience. I guess SJW can have this side effect in some people; I just never made the connection.
Thanks again for your concern, everyone. I'll try to keep you apprised about how my son does in the upcoming weeks. Take care!

Stacy
