I have had problems with Effexor and insomnia every time I up the dose, but it went away each time after about three or four days.

Cyproheptidine has worked to knock me out, too, which is an anti-histimine. You might try benadryl or the like. They really do work, but take them early in the evening, since they tend to be long lasting...
