I an a Registered Nurse in Long term Care, who has a
80 year old man who is very depressed, has bone cancer, and has lost 7% of his body weight in the last 2 months! His doctor is a internal medicine MD.
He has ordered Zolft50 mgm po at hs, and Prozac 40 mgm po q am. These drugs cause anorexia, and are highly protein bound medications. We want to change him to Remeron, which is a better drug for the elderly. This MD doesn't understand about these drugs being protein bound, and not a good choice for the
elderly. Is it a good practice to give these drugs
together? I was told that it was not? Can you help?
Thanks Georgia Adams RN
