Dilantin for anxiety/depression..

Posted by Deborah on April 29, 1999, at 19:28:10

I have just finished reading a book titled "A Remarkable Medicine Has Been Overlooked" by Jack Dreyfus (founder of The Dreyfus Fund) and am somewhat overwhelmed by the contents. He suffered from severe depression/anxiety and by chance was given Dilantin (normally prescribed for seizure disorders) and shortly thereafter became well. Truly well! He began a
crusade to have this drug tested and its effects on mood disorders verified. He has spent 80 million of his own money in this effort, and finally decided to write this book after years of trying to work with the government. The effects of dilantin on depression have now been thoroughly researched and documented, and yet STILL it is not widely known in the psychiatric community.
I am interested to know if any of you have heard of the use of dilantin for depression, or have perhaps used it. I, for one, am calling my psychiatrist in the morning to discuss this with her.
