> You might want to read the earlier thread on the topic "difference between dysthymia and depression"? But I'm wondering why the distinction is important to you? For me, the labels are not that helpful. I especially dislike "personality disorder." It's one thing--and has been helpful--to realize I have a biologically-based depression, but I can't think of a single way in which it would be a good idea to think of myself as having a "disordered" personality! It's also my impression that the diagnosis of depressive personality disorder is being questioned more as more biological bases for dysthymia and depression are uncovered (maybe one of the docs can comment on this). Anyway, if it's yourself you're talking about, I'd urge you to think of your problems in terms of YOUR experience--what they feel like, how they hurt, what helps, etc.--rather than as a diagnostic label.

James here.....

I too hate this label. Perhaps it would be better
if you thought of this as a biochemical mood disorder. Don't spend time blaming...spend time getting a more useful use of time !
