TO GIVE TO THE PSYCHIATRIST THAT I WORK WITH WHO TEND TO THINK THAT THESE MEDS DO NOT AFFECT THE ADDICT IN A NEGATIVE MANNER. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE A TRIGGER AND ARE MOOD ALTERING TO THE ADDICT AND THE DRUG SEEKING CLIENT TENDS TO ABUSE THEM. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS! tONDA

I qualify as an 'addict' (alcohol). In my personal experience, benzos have been helpful, have led to no serious problems. Withdrawals are a problem, but can be dealt with--slow and careful. Mainly, benzos relievee my anxiety, which is their job, making my life easier, sometimes enabling me to meet responsibilities i would not otherwise meet. Finally. they make me LESS apt to drink to relieve anxiety. I much prefer a benign tranquilizer to a very dangerous one. I have never derived great pleasure from benzos, besides the pleasure that comes with relief; nor have I ever been tempted to raise the dose in any dramatic way. Perhaps there is some relevant literature I should look at, but I find much of the broohaha about benzos incomprehensible.
